Body Composition

Body composition testing measures the breakdown of your total weight into the percentage that is fat and the percentage that is muscle. Your body fat percentage is the number one indicator of your overall health. Having a high body fat percentage (a body fat percentage that is greater that 30% for women and 20% for men) puts you at an increased risk for heart disease, Type II diabetes, kidney disease, and orthopedic problems. Here are some things you should know about body composition testing in the BOD POD:
Accurate - Not all weight loss is fat loss. When losing weight it is important to preserve muscle tissue. Losing even one pound of muscle will lower your metabolism dramatically. To be able to distinguish the difference between fat loss and muscle loss you need an accurate assessment tool. The BOD POD is the most accurate method on the market.

Fast - A complete test from start to finish, takes less than 5 minutes.
Safe - The BOD POD accommodates a large variety of human shapes and sizes.
Easy - All the individual being tested has to do is sit still and breath normally.
Though there are other methods that exist for assessing body composition, none are as accurate as the BOD POD.

See examples in the next column.

Skinfold (Caliper) Measurements - Shown to be 4-10% in error even when performed by trained professionals.
Bio-Electrical Impedence (Hand-held or Scale)- Drinking a single glass of water can change your results!
Waist to Hip Ratio - Relies on a basic formula that does not even consider body fat percentage!
Body Mass Index - Relies on formula that would consider many of our favorite athletes to be obese!

In fact, a trained professional, can guess your true body fat percentage more accurately than the majority of these methods. Get your body composition tested at Areté HealthFit. Call today to schedule your appointment.
